Not Another Cliche

This is a poem I wrote last year and was posted once before. I just loved it so much and thought it was very precise example of what's been going on lately and it also connects very well to the article that inspired it. This poem really means a lot to me and although it might not be the best it is still very close to my heart. It is about a man who killed another man for being a different race, in other words he killed someone for no reason. This also is very special to me because it's not another cliche where the cop kills the African American instead it shows its not only cops who kill innocent people.

The Article of Inspiration:Peter Liang

What did he do?
Did he hurt you?
Was his skin color not good enough for you?
Was the crayon green when it was supposed to be yellow?
Brooklyn New York  
Firing guns with no back up because you feel like it
Are you kidding me?
The nerve.
Officer Peter Liang is the name
Is that what you say?
But how could you live with yourself
When you shot that bullet
“Truth is could’ve happened to anyone” your devoted protesters say.
But being found guilty suits you better in a way
Must be nice to know more than 10,000 people will show
like a group of ants that never stop multiplying
To support you and only you  
To bad you're being sentenced when so many people fought for you


This is not okay
All lives should matter
If not to you then the rest of us
It’s not right.
uggh you don’t understand
We fight
We try
We never give up
And this is what we get
You don’t just get to choose when to take someone’s life
Especially if you don’t have a reason
At least not for me.
Since when did this become okay?
Is this okay?
Is this right?
All these questions yet, you still pulled the trigger that night
Releasing yet another life from loved ones.
Tossing another tissue on this broken floor we call life.

    I remember this assignment as part of our ELA class last year, and I must say you did a quintessential job of portraying your article through a poem. Elements such as your diction, rhetorical questions, and even formatting all come together to really demonstrate the feelings and emotions that were discussed throughout your article. That being said, this was a good blog post. Not only does the poem very accurately relate to the article but is also very well written and interesting to read.

In the book Chopsticks by Jessica Anthony and Rodrigo Corral it tells a love story between the main characters Gloria Fleming and Francisco Mendoza. In the book it shows how Francisco is a new student attending Willard Dunn School for boys. The book also shows how other main character Gloria who is missing is a well known pianist who travels from place to place, city to city to inspire people with her extraordinary music. Nick Blog Post

Trait 1: The first trait that I think described Nick was having courage. I think Nick has courage because he was able to take his story and share it with the world even though it might've been difficult. Trait 2: The second trait that I think describe Nick was having the ability to preserve. Nick is very perserverent because he took how he was with no arms or legs and made it a positive thing and something that he learned to live with and is no in a way proud. Trait 3: The third trait I chose that described Nick was confidence. Nick has confidence because he's proud of who he is and embraces it instead of feeling bad for himself and hating life. Connection: Over the summer I got very sick and was told I may not be able to do certain things that I really love to do like dance or play Volleyball. Fool's Gold Book Blog!

Fools Gold by Melody Carlson is about a Young Girl named Hannah who loses herself. She is a young girl from Australia and her parents are missionaries. She doesn't quite act the same and when her parents leave her with her uncle this summer, she truly realizes this maybe isn't the life she wants, or is it? In the book Hannah is faced with many obstacles and she really gets to see some natural ugly teenage drama. Throughout the book she is mortified numerous amount of times and for what? She then becomes face to face with a choice that can possibly really effect her in life. You have to read to find out the path she takes and if fitting in is worth loosing herself for. I really loved this book and thought it shared so many valuable lessons. Not only that but the book also displayed many issues and events that are so relatable and can effect you in a big way, especially if you're a teenager.
